Our Jet Blue flight finally takes off but it's now 5/17 instead of 5/16. We originally had a departure time of 11:59 PM but we don't take of until past 12:30 AM which put us into 5/17. This flight from Lima to Ft. Lauderdale is a red eye/night flight. On the plane seats are packages containing ear plugs and a sleep mask. I can't sleep on planes so..... Tried to take some pictures of Lima city lights as we were leaving.

Our flight was uneventful and soon enough we're in
Ft.
Lauderdale. I have time to check my e-mails as I'm worried about my 93 year old mom but nothing about her in my e-mails. Due to the delay in Lima my layover time here for us to have a sit down breakfast is gone. I just bought coffee and a blueberry muffin from a store. My husband requested a bagel but none available so he didn't want anything. I was surprised that the cost was only $6.46 as usually prices are high in airport. Finally we board our flight to
JFK.

We arrive at
JFK to see there is a gate change and our flight from here to
Buffalo is delayed. Oh well. We get to Buffalo around 5:00 PM instead of the scheduled 4:32 PM so not too bad. We claim our bags and catch a shuttle over to where we have left our car. Get our car and away we go. We arrive home 6:30 PM. I unpack. My husband decides to cut the grass but just our front yard. We have almost 3 acres of grass that we cut. Since we've only been gone 2 weeks the grass is not that high. We're not in Peru anymore!

Final thoughts:
The highlight of this trip was most definitely
Machu Picchu and I'm so glad we scheduled 2 nights in
Aguas Calientes for 2 days entry to MP to really explore and experience all the history and just plain awesomeness of this amazing, magical place. Loved the
El Albergue Hotel in
Ollantaytambo especially the food there. And the
Ollantaytambo ruins. We would have liked more than 4 nights in
Cusco. It wasn't enough for us. I loved
Sacsayhuaman and
Salineras the best. The
museums and
churches of
Cusco were terrific.
Taxidatum was a good resource for transportation. Well, except for that one unforeseen time due to the accident in Cusco. Wed loved all our hotel choices but especially the
JW Marriott in
Cusco with that hot tub with its soothing jets. And the people-staff at all the hotels, servers at restaurants, our drivers, guides....... Wonderful, kind, friendly people. And the food. Just a few bad choices. I packed ok for my husband but packed too many things for myself that I never wore. Our best investment were the trekking/hiking poles I bought from our local sporting store Cabela's. They were lifesavers in exploring the many ruins. Got great help and feedback from the folks on Trip Advisor. TA never fails to help me in planning our trips. I'm sure there's more but my mind's a blank right now.
Not too many negatives. The substitute driver Taxidatum had to get for us to drive us from Ollantaytambo to Cusco. We were supposed to have lots of time to explore Pisac ruins and market which we didn't get. The tour with LIMAVISION that went so wrong for the Paso horse show. The very, very, very long tiring tour for Paracas/ Ballestas and Nazca. So many uncomfortable hours sitting in the car as it was mostly time spent driving. Would never do this as a day trip again. Definitely not having at least 2 more nights in Cusco was a negative.
The biggest positive for me was that we did this trip now. We're both in our 70s and it was a physical trip that really tested us. But we did it and enjoyed ourselves immensely!
PERU. We're going to remember you fondly and you will always occupy a special place in our hearts. 💕
