May 16, 2017-Lima sightseeing-Museo Nacional de Arquelogia/Antropologia/Historia del Peru, Plaza Bolivar, Larcomar Mall; Tanta; Flying home

Today is our last day in Peru.  It's been a great 2 weeks.  Breakfast same as on previous days.  Our flight home departs 11:59 PM so we have time for more sightseeing.  I've made arrangements with Taxidatum to pick us up at the hotel at 8:00 PM to take us to the airport.  We are all packed and our hotel will hold our luggage for us.  Check out was as easy as check in.  We're told we can still use the hotel facilities like the pool if we want.  Next to the pool there is a shower and changing area in the bathroom.  The staff here have been amazing.  All of them!  We go across the street to TAMBO and buy a bottle of Pisco-grape-as recommended by the hotel bartender.  Cost 28.90 soles.

I have the hotel call for a taxi.  It is 12:15 PM.  I want to go to the Museo de Arqueologia, Antropologia e Historia del Peru.  The hotel says the taxi will cost 25 soles.  Our driver tells us he will wait for us and then take us to Larcomar for an additional 25 soles.  Sounds good to me.  This museum is located in Plaza Bolivar.  Admission senior rate 5 soles per person.  We see items from Paracas, Pukara, Nasca, Vicus, Moche and so much more.  Stone obelisk.  Metals of silver, gold.  There's good explanation signage.  Glad we made the time to visit.  There's a small gift shop.  We spent 1 hour here.

I check out the head and shoulders statue of Simon Bolivar who along with San Martin was instrumental in securing independence for Peru from Spain.  His armies fought in the north while San Martin's armies fought in the south.

Our taxi driver drops us off by the El Parque del Amor and points out where we should walk to get to Larcomar Mall.  It's a nice day for a little stroll.  At the mall I buy socks from the GAP store as mine have a hole in them.  I'll wear them on the flight home.  Cost 19 soles.  Then I see a PANDORA store.  I have 2 of their bracelets with charms.  Maybe there's a charm for Peru.  They have several but I chose the Machu Picchu charm.  Cost 291 soles.  Pricey but it's a nice reminder of our trip.  No more shopping for me.

We decide to go to Tanta for a late lunch as our flight is so late.  I request to be seated at a table by the railing with a view of the paragliders, cliffs, ocean.  A short wait and we get a great table.  It's nice to just gaze out at what's happening.  If I was younger and braver maybe I would have tried the paragliding!    There's a large variety of items on the menu.  I tell my husband we can't leave Peru without having cabiche.  So we order the cabiche clasico and a traditional Limeno sandwich which is served with sweet potato fries and hot rocoto sauce.  I select the Pavo-smoky oven roasted turkey with lettuce and red onion relish.  We will share.  The cabiche is out of this world and also comes with sweet potato slices and huge corn.   I have half of the sandwich, most of the fries, and a little taste of the cabiche.   Richard is happy.  I'm happy.  Cost 88 soles without tip.

We could also see lots of paragliders going by

We walk around some more checking out the stores.  There's a small place selling OPI nail polish but they are out of the Peru red color.  Bummer.  There's a neat grocery store even and I wish we would have gone in to get a bag of Peru coffee and some snacks for the flight.  Oh well.  This mall has 2 levels but it's not as big as the Jockey Mall we went to.  By now we think we have room for dessert.  There's a gelato stand right by the Juan Valdez Cafe.  So many flavors.  Hard to decide as they all look good.  We each get 1 scoop.  Cherrymania with bits of sweet cherries and dark chocolate for me and banana crunch for my dear husband.  Cost 11.90 soles.  The gelato was fantastic.  Time to return to the hotel.  I see a stand-Cabify.  We approach and are told a taxi will take us back for 20 soles.  We have spent 3 hours at this mall.

Lovely views from this mall

Wish I had gone in and checked this place out

Since 2009 we have been drinking Cafe Britt Costa Rica coffee but I may order the Peru variety

We are back at the hotel by 5:30 PM.  Our Taxidatum ride is scheduled for 8:00 PM.  Should we spend time at the pool?  Maybe not.  I get our luggage so I can pack my Pandora purchase and get out the clothes we will wear on the flight home.  Get changed and decide to wait in the lobby.  Do some checking for e-mails, etc. on my computer.  Our Taxidatum guy is here early at 7:40 PM but we are ready to go to the airport.  Say our goodbyes to the wonderful staff of the Casa Andina.  We really enjoyed our stay here and would definitely book this hotel again.  We start driving to the airport and almost immediately run into a traffic bootleneck.  He turns around and we proceed by going down several side streets.   We get to the airport a bit after 9:00 PM.  Cost was $18.00 senior rate and I give him a nice tip.

Check in at Jet Blue counter went fine as our check in bags are still under the weight limit.  Whew!!  Before reaching security I see a Cafe Britt store that sells T shirts, Hats, and a bunch of other souvenirs in addition to coffee.  I find the perfect T shirt for my grandson.  The clerk tells me there's a sale going on and if I buy 2 T-shirts I'll get 1 free.  So I look for my husband but nothing in XXL which is his size.  I'm thinking to just buy this T shirt but the clerk tells me there's another Cafe Britt store past security which would have more stock.  I'm concerned as I love this one for my grandson but the clerk assures me I'll be able to find it in his size at the CB store after security.  Ok, I decide to trust him.  Wrong move!  I go through security, see the CB store and they have the T shirt but NOT in my grandson's size!!  They also don't have any XXL T shirts.  I decide to go back through security to the first CB store and buy the T shirt for my grandson.  I get to security and I'm told I can't go back through.  WTF!  I return to the larger CB store.  I'm extremely upset and angry that I was told what I was told by the guy at the first CB store.  Lesson:  if you see something you want, buy it right then!  I'm told there's nothing they can do.  After much pleading and a tear or two the manager says he will go to the other store and get the T shirt for me.  I give him some money.  While he's gone I look around and put a baseball type hat that is very cool as it has the names of the new 7 wonders of the world written around the back of it, a wall hanging mask, and some CB chocolates/candy in my shopping basket.  He returns with my T shirt!  My day has been saved.  I'm so happy and grateful.  Cost of the T shirt was 64.95 soles.  The hat was 69.95 soles, the very pretty mask was 260 soles and the CB chocolate was 39.95 soles per box.  Total credit card purchase $132.21 minus the cost of my grandson's hope he really likes it T shirt.

We are on Jet Blue #1824 which was slightly delayed

I love this wall hanging mask I bought

These are the 2 boxes of CB chocolates I bought

The hat I bought

The T shirt that I bought for my grandson that caused so much drama!

On all our trips I buy a coffee mug, a magnet for my refrigerator or bulletin board, and a pin or 2 pins in this case

Now I can finally sit and relax at our boarding gate.  Our Jet Blue flight is delayed.  While waiting I witness a poor guy having a problem with his carry on bag.  The staff at the counter AeroMexico are giving him a hard time.  Now I just saw these women wave through a girl who had this humungous  backpack like the kind you'd bring for camping/hiking which will never fit in the overhead bin.  It was that big.  Or maybe it would but taking up an entire bin space.  She also had another huge duffle/backpack attached to the front of her body.  This poor guy was made to take items-looked like clothing-out of a black rectangular shaped travel bag to put in his small size carry on bag.  Trying to stuff things in the zipper started to come apart.  But now the other black bag can be folded over to the size of a briefcase.  My husband and I watched all of this transfixed.  Couldn't believe what we were seeing.  How is ok for that girl but not this poor guy??  I sure hope he made a complaint to the airline after he got to his destination.  I know I would.
